Wall Streeter accidentally plunges to death from penthouse apt.

From the NY Post:

A night of drinking turned deadly for a bond trader who got locked out of his West Village penthouse and fell to the street trying to climb onto his balcony from the roof, sources said yesterday.

Though police had not officially ruled out suicide, a police source and neighbors said Matthew Morahan, 29, had told the super he lost his keys -- only minutes before he fell at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The Jeffries & Co. trader is thought to have slipped while trying to climb over a three-foot wall that separates a rooftop walkway from his terrace, and plummeted over the side of the building.

He fell 11 floors, crash-landing onto the top of a truck with a bang so loud that 911 callers reported hearing an explosion, cops said.

Matt was a great kid. He was a neighbor in Summit NJ and will be missed a great deal by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Tragic...another spoiled rich kid of privilage, earning millions working for a company because of family connections...living in a giant NYC penthouse...out drinking every Wednesday night...pocketing giant bonuses at the expense of our country...excuse me while I pity him...

I'm somewhere in between. Always tragic in some sense when a young person dies, but I don't have much sympathy if it's a result of stupidity/poor decisions.

Maybe I'm callous, but as Mel Brooks once said, tragedy is when I cut my finger; comedy is when someone falls through an open manhole and dies.

Aside from the fact that your comments are indeed callous and sick at a time like this, I can tell you that he was not at all a spoiled rich kid earning millions.

He worked extremely hard in school and was one of the smartest people I knew, excelling at his work. He was qualified beyond any sense of the word. He was also soft-spoken, kind and caring. He was such an amazing man and an incredible friend. He did not earn millions, but that is completely beside the point.

I wish you felt the pain that all of us who loved him are currently feeling so that you would think twice about posting something so heartless.

Just fyi - posters 2 and 4 are different. I´m #4, just a bit of a jerk, but #2 seems like a total jerk.

I´m sorry for your loss.

ok he was my cousin i can tell you this he was NOT a spoiled rich kid nor did he act like one. all of you that did not know him and are laughing at his death or saying negative stuff about MY cousin are all pathetic and have nothing else to do in you small pathetic idiotic lives. i hope that none of you have to go through the pain friends and family had to endure. honestly put yourselves in our shoes especially his immediate family and then read the comment that you wrote and see how it feels to have your family or friend being mocked it is not fun actually it is hurtful to see that their are cold hearted people in the u.s. besides can everyone of you( the ones that were negative) honestly tell me you have never had a drunk moment? i can tell you right now you have so please think before you say something because it can hurt. my cousins death still hurts today i miss and love him R.I.P Matty
