Acting on a tip, the Nebraska Humane Society seized a monkey and a sugar glider from an Omaha apartment on April 24.The animals are now living at the Henry Doorly Zoo.
Sugar gliders are small marsupials native to Australia. The furry, tree-dwelling creatures use membranes near their hind legs to glide through the air, sometimes as far as 50 meters. The animal is similar to a flying squirrel.
Ann and Andrew Gnusen were ticketed for harboring a non-domesticated animal and obstructing police. Officers said the couple, who lives near 108th and Lafeyette streets, tried to hide the monkey from them. The monkey was found in a closet.
